SYSA General Meeting Notes
September 5, 2006
v Saturday 9/23 is picture day. Team envelopes will be available for pick-up
at the concession stand this weekend to pass out to your players. Team schedules will be distributed within
the next two weeks.
v Friday 9/15 is the deadline for entries for
the SYSA Annual Golf Tournament. SYSA’s
goal is to have 18 foursomes.
v All coaches for U10, U12, and U15 are
required to submit scores into their division moderators by Sunday
evening. Moderators must submit
collected scores to Annette Paiva (VP of Recreation) and Adel Cabral (President
of SYSA) Sunday evening so that scores can be provided to the Observer for
print.
v Flags and medicine kits are to be obtained
from the field shed and put in place by each division coach whom has the first
game of the day and put back the coach whom has the last game of the day. Ice packs needed during the game should be
obtained from the concession stand.
v Coaches are reminded to have their players
clean-up their field’s area after each game, and to limit non-coaches and
non-players from the coaching area. For
U08 fields, yellow lines will be painted to aid in designating the spectator
area.
v Slaughter-rule reminder that when a team is
winning by 6 or more goals, the winning team MUST remove a player from the
field of play and play down until the goal differential is 4 goals at which
time a player may be added back onto the field.
v If a team does not have enough players to
field a full team, the opposing team must play down for sportsmanship sake.
v October 1st is the deadline to
turn in player ratings noting participation in the Smithfield Cup will be tied to
SYSA having your ratings on file.
Ratings should be turned into your division’s moderator, and moderators
should take an active role in following up on coaches to meet the deadline.
v Sportsmanship award should be applicable
for all players on a team, including the coach’s child. Look to assistants for input into this
award, and go with the general consensus.
v Moderators are to verify that all names on
all rosters for their respective division are spelled accurately. Coaches should verify all names on their
current rosters and report back to the moderator any changes necessary –
including misspellings or players quitting.
v Starting Friday 9/15 for 8 weeks, John
Tomlinson will be providing soccer clinics.
Schedule will be published soon, but REC U08 will be held weeks 1 &
2, REC U10 weeks 3 & 4, REC U12 weeks 5 & 6, and CSD group’s weeks 7
& 8.
v Reminder that Recreation Soccer is designed
for Recreational players (not Competitive) and the emphasis should be on
learning and fun – not winning at the expense of either.
v Reminder that once a coach signs the game
card, the score recorded remains as-is.
Please make sure BEFORE you sign the game card, what is recorded is
accurate.
v Reminder to be courteous and respectful to
referees. If there are issues with a
referee, rather than hashing it out on the playing with the referee, make note
and report your issue directly to Adel Cabral.
v Reminder to obtain parent volunteers for
your team’s designated date/time slot.
v The issue of the Indian Run Trail access to
Deerfield Park being locked on the weekends can be addressed by contacting the
Town Manager via email at susovicz@smithfieldri.com.
v The Competitive Soccer Division has an
opening for the U08B First Year Team.
If interested, please contact Bob Moretti via email at vp-competitive@sysa-ri.com.
v The Knights of Columbus will be promoting
an International Soccer Skills Competition for boys and girls ages 10 –
14. Contact Annette Paiva at vp-recreation@sysa-ri.com for more
information.
